General FAQs

How do I book a consultation?

You can book a consultation appointment by:

(i) Telephoning our receptionist at the Manchester clinic on 0161 839 7663 or the Leeds Clinic on 01132 43 93 43, or leave a message when out of hours.

(ii) use the contact form on the right or book online form.

(iii) send an e-mail to info@SkinMedical.co.uk

Can I bring a friend or relative?

Yes. Providing we have your permission they can also attend the consultation. However they will not be able to accompany you during any laser treatments.

Who do I see at the consultation?

You will be introduced to a qualified and experienced nursing or medical practitioner. We do not employ sales consultants.

Do I have to make a decision at the consultation?

No. You are under no obiligation to make a decision on the day nor do we encourage you to do so. None of our staff are remunerated on commission basis nor do we employ sales persons. All consultations will be with medical staff who will give impartial advice.

Who performs the treatment?

Our skin treatments are performed by medical practitioners who have been specifically trained to operate IPL and lasers. Our surgeons are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) as well as the own speciality association. All of our laser practitioners are qualified nurses with over five years’ experience in treating patients with all types of skin conditions. Practitioner qualifications and training certificates are displayed at the clinic.

How much will my treatment cost?

The cost of treatment is directly related to the time, product and skill involved in performing the care. However, because our practitioners are so capable and experienced, the time devoted to delivering quality care can be much reduced compared to in other clinics. For example, the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and lasers used by us are extremely effective and therefore will reduce the amount of treatments required. Our practitioners ensure that the treatment received is effective for treating the patient’s complaint. For example, a full body laser hair removal should take between 3.5 and 4 hours, and practitioners may also do a double-pass of IPL if a patient’s presenting complaint is severe. Our lasers/IPL can only be used by qualified practitioners. In these respects, we are competitively priced and give patients great value treatments.

Can I cancel my treatment?

Patients are able to cancel their treatments should they wish to. The clinic does however operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, so if a patient leaves less than 48 hours to cancel or rearrange an appointment they will lose their £25 deposit. Some treatments such as Sculptra, CO2 laser, vaser and stop snoring surgery require a 50% deposit for bookings. Cancellations and rearrangements are subject to the manager and clinician’s discretion.

What will happen at my first visit?

On arrival at the clinic you will be asked to complete your medical history. You will then have a consultation with our medical practitioner in private and a care plan will be completed. All information will be kept confidential.

After careful examination you will be given a full explanation of the treatment you require along with realistic expectations on the likely outcome following treatment. All patients are provided with written information about their treatment and the cost of such treatment. You are encouraged to ask questions. Depending on the treatment you are interested in you may be shown a short video. Should you then decide to undertake the treatment an appointment will be made for you at your convenience.

How long will the treatment take?

Typical treatments are 30 minutes, however longer appointments are needed for more labour intensive treatments such as CO2 laser, hair removal (depending on the size of the area being treated), treatments that require numbing cream e.g. fillers, and Vaser lipo.

Is your clinic regulated?

Yes. We are legally required to register with the Care Quality Commission who gave us the authority to operate Intense Pulse Light and class 3B and 4 lasers. We are also registered to perform minor surgical procedures including treatment for snoring and liposuction using Vaser. Our Clinic is inspected by the Commission each year, and they determine whether our clinic abides by the high standards set down by the government. This procedure ensures that patients receive proper treatment and after care. The Care Quality Commission also regulates NHS.

What are your hours of opening?

The clinic hours are generally 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. We do have late evening openings on Tuesday and Wednesday, normally up to 7pm.

Will the treatment hurt?

The answer to this clearly depends on the:

(a) extent of the treatment being undertaking, and

(b) the patient’s personal tolerance of pain and discomfort. Most patients say that the fear of the first treatment far outweighed the actual discomfort experienced.

Personal patient experiences can be found on our testimonials page.
