Dermal Fillers: The Importance of Choosing the Right Product and Right Practitioner

iStock_000016104116_ExtraSmallMore and more people are turning to dermal fillers to provide volume and treat wrinkles, with approximate 6 million treatments being administered worldwide each year. A well-established treatment, the surge in popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

When deciding to have dermal fillers however there are some key questions you need to consider: which product and which practitioner?

There is an abundance of both products and practitioner and it can be easy to become overwhelmed by the choice. Making an informed decision is key when it comes to dermal fillers, the results of which can last up to 12 months.

Which practitioner should I choose?

If you’ve decided you want to have dermal fillers, or even if you are just interested in finding our more information, the first step to take if choosing an appropriate practitioner.

The NHS recommend “cosmetic injectable treatments should only be carried out by an appropriately trained doctor, pharmacist, dentist or registered nurse in a clinical environment. They shouldn’t be carried out by beauty therapists who lack the necessary clinical background.” At Skin Medical we pride ourselves on our practitioners, who are fully-qualified medical nurses.

Whilst dermal fillers are well-established treatment it’s important to understand that sometimes thing can and do go wrong. As with any treatment there are a handful of risks which need to be considered. Medical practitioners are better able to deal with any complications that may arise and can provide appropriate medical advice.

Always ensure your practitioner is fully qualified and CQC registered before going ahead with treatment – carrying out research on your practitioner is just as important as the research you carry out the treatment.

Which type of filler should I have?

Here at Skin Medical we recommend the Juvéderm Vycross range, a natural-looking dermal filler. Other fillers can provide an ‘over-done’ effect; often, with traditional fillers, there can be a lack of expression in the face following treatment. The Juvéderm Vycross range is a flexible filler that moves with the face and provides a natural result – whilst still giving volume and smoothing and reducing wrinkles.

Before any treatment is carried out a tailored consultation would be carried out to establish what results you are wanting to achieve and to discuss all of the options available.

If you’re considering having dermal fillers, or any other aesthetic treatment, you owe it to yourself to make an informed decision. We pride ourselves on our practitioners and products, and the results we achieve.
