genuine Dermaroller can be used to improve the following skin conditions:

  • Acne scars
  • Aged and sun damaged skin
  • Facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks

How It Works

Our trained clinician applies the medical Genuine Dermaroller™ device to insert thousands of micro-medical needle-columns into the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width. The column will close rapidly, enabling the skin to recover quickly (normally within 24 hours). A topical anaesthetic is used to numb the skin: this is done to ensure that the procedure is not uncomfortable for patients. It will normally take up to 30 minutes for the topical anaesthetic to work and 20 – 30 minutes for the Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy procedure.

After the Dermaroller procedure, the body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the skin’s surface (the dermis). The Dermaroller will stimulate collagen regrowth and the formation of new collagen; new skin cells will be generated and the blood supply to the treated area will be enhanced.

It can take up to 6 weeks for visible signs of regeneration and repair to become apparent. This process will continue over the following months, providing patients with a natural and long-lasting enhancement.

Number of Treatments

Normally, a course of three therapy procedures approximately six weeks apart will be recommended. As every patient is different, a personalised treatment plan will be discussed with a medical nurse practitioner at consultation in order to obtain the best outcome. For example, for patients with acne scarring, a combination of treatment using alternative solutions may be advised.

Post-Procedure effects

Immediately after your treatment with the Dermaroller™, the skin will have the appearance of moderate sunburn and  may feel warmer and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day, with only slight redness appearing the following day.

AfterCare

The practitioner may recommend and apply Chiroxy cream after the procedure to help soothe and calm the skin. Some patients who have had a particularly aggressive treatment are encouraged to use this cream until the redness has cleared.

Patients should use tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently, always making sure hands are clean when touching the treated area. It is recommended that makeup is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure. The practitioner may be able to recommend or supply a specialist mineral make-up that they feel would be suitable for use during this period.

If patients will be in daylight immediately after the procedure they must apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a minimum SPF50. Patients are encouraged to apply a SPF50 or total block on a daily basis for at least two weeks, even during the winter months and on cloudy days, as part of their skincare regime.

The Healing Process

In the days following your treatment, skin may feel dryer than normal as the skin begins to repair and regenerate. Aftercare advice will be given during consultation and procedure.
