There new innovative techniques have been developed recently that voids the need for local anaesthetic. These methods are called Clarivein and Venaclose.
During both of these procedures:
- Our vascular surgeon will use an ultrasound scan to view images of your vein to guide the surgeon during the treatment.
- Local anaesthetic is applied only to the entry site of the diseased vein.
- Our vascular surgeon will thread either the Clarevein probe, a rotating wire and chemical solution into the vein or in the case of Venaclose, inject a harmless ‘glue’ along the length of the diseased vein.
- In both cases the vein is then broken down and dispersed by the body and alternative veins are used to pump blood to the heart.
