During the RFA and ELA procedures:
- Our vascular surgeon will use ultrasound scan to view images of your vein to guide the surgeon during the treatment.
- Local anaesthetic is applied to the full length diseased vein.
- Our vascular surgeon will thread either the radiofrequency or laser device through the vein in your lower leg up to your groin.
- Intense heat will reach the vein through the devise in the vein. The heat will close off and destroy the vein. The vein will then disappear over time.
- In both cases the vein is then broken down and dispersed by the body and alternative veins are used to pump blood to the heart.
