Thread Veins
Thread veins, also known as spider veins, are veins that are visible through the skin. They are particularly common on the legs and face and can vary in size, shape and colour. While thread veins look unsightly, they are harmless. However, as they can be embarrassing and unpleasant for the sufferer, many people choose to have them treated.
Research shows that thread veins can be hereditary; identical twins are likely to develop them in the same places. However, there are also other causes, which include injuries and cuts, exposure to sunlight, hormonal factors such as pregnancy and exposure to radiotherapy, which can occur due to radiotherapy treatment for cancers.
