What are birthmarks?

Our skin colour is determined by the amount of melanin we have in our skin. However, sometimes abnormal concentrations of melanin can occur, causing a birthmark. While these are generally harmless, many sufferers decide to get treatment because they find their birthmark embarrassing, unattractive and hard to disguise.
  • How can it be treated?

  • Our Vasculight technology system uses Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to deliver controlled bursts of energy to the affected skin, which destroys the pigmented mark. The IPL works because the light energy is absorbed into the skin, destroying some of the melanin. This dilutes the abnormal concentration of melanin, leaving the skin looking and feeling more balanced.

The Vasculight system is particularly effective when treating large birthmarks. The large spot size of the system allows us to successfully treat a larger area of skin than inferior laser system.

  • How many treatments do I need?

  • The number of treatments depends on the extent of the pigmentation. However, because of the high specification of our Vasculight system, we’re able to keep the number of treatments to a minimum.

  • Will it hurt?

  • It doesn't, although some patients report a tingling sensation that’s similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting. The treatments are relatively straightforward, so you're able to get back to work or your daily routine immediately.

  • When will I see the results?

  • An improvement in appearance should be apparent after the first treatment.
