Port Wine Stains
What are port wine stains?
A port wine stain is a red or purple birthmark caused by an area of abnormal blood vessels. Because port wine stains usually occur on the face, they can affect the confidence and social skills of sufferers. How can it be treated?
These Pigment lesions of the face or neck are usually difficult to camouflage. However the Vasculight technology system using Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is designed to deliver high energy pulses with variable duration and velocity to destroy the stain. The rapid absorption of the light energy causes the melanin to be destroyed hence diluting its concentration causing the skin to appear uniform in colour and texture. In addition, the large spot size capability of the Vasculight allows a larger area to be treated successfully without the unwelcome side effects associated with inferior systems.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments depends on the extent of the stain. However, unlike many clinics, we're able to keep the number of treatments to a minimum because of the high specification of our Vasculight system.
Will it hurt?
While the treatment doesn't hurt, some patients do notice some slight discomfort that's similar to a sting or the snap of an elastic band.
When will I see the results?
You should see a noticeable improvement after the first treatment.
