Muscle Relaxing Injection
What are muscle relaxing injections?
The best known muscle relaxing injection is BOTOX®, Botulinum Toxin®. This medication can only be prescribed by doctors, and is often used for facial ticks and Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).Botox® is a natural, purified protein that has been used for therapeutic purposes for decades and has been proven to be safe, reliable and effective.
How do muscle relaxing injections work?
Many wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial expressions triggering the contraction of muscles under the skin. Botox® is injected directly into these tiny muscles, blocking nerve impulses from reaching the area and preventing further contractions. The muscle relaxes and simultaneously the skin covering the muscle is smoothed. In certain cases, with ongoing treatments, the wrinkle can actually disappear. The effects of Botox® are confined to the treated sites; it does not travel throughout the body.
Do muscle relaxing injections hurt?
Although many people find the procedure painless, some notice a feeling of mild discomfort.
What results can I expect?
Botox® provides temporary smoothing of crow's feet, frown lines and the forehead area wrinkles. The treatment takes about 10-15 minutes, but the results won't be apparent for 3-5 days. Depending upon the patient, results will usually last between 3 to 5 months. Repeated treatments often lead to an increase in the duration of results.
