Botulinum Toxin Treatment

Botulinum Toxin Botox Treatment
The most well-known muscle relaxing solution is Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type-A), which is licensed for the medical treatment of facial ticks and sweating.

Botox, which is particularly renowned for its short-term improvement of facial wrinkles, has also been used used throughout the world for over last twenty years in the application of non surgical cosmetic treatments to smooth out unwanted wrinkles and lines. It is a natural, purified protein that has been used for therapeutic purposes for decades. It is proven to be safe, reliable and effective, hence its popularity.

Botox can only be prescribed by a doctor or qualified prescribing clinician such as a prescribing nurse. At Skin Medical only doctors and fully qualified nurse prescribers prescribe and administer Botox.

Not all muscle relaxing injections are the same. We only use Allergan Botox which is FDA approved and regarded as the gold standard in botulinum toxin type-A. This FDA approval means that the product has gone through rigorous testing and has been deemed safe and effective for aesthetic use.

Skin Medical also uses Botox to combat excessive perspiring/sweating (hyperhidrosis), teeth grinding (bruxism) and for jaw reshaping (masseter hypertrophy).

All of our practitioners have over ten years’ experience in performing Botox treatments. This experience means that patients will have a more natural appearance following treatment, as opposed to the ‘frozen face’ look that is a result of less experienced practitioners and inferior muscle relaxing injections.

Repetitive facial expressions cause the tiny muscles under the skin to contract, gradually creating wrinkles. When injected directly into these muscles, the Botox stops nerve impulses reaching the area and causing further contractions. The treated muscle then relaxes, which in turn smoothes the skin covering the muscle. In some cases, with repeated treatments, the wrinkle can actually disappear altogether.

The effects of muscle relaxing injections are restricted to the treatment areas and do not travel throughout the body.

Some people feel some very mild discomfort, but most find the procedure painless. As a very fine needle is used for the injection, discomfort is minimised.

Each application of Botox takes around 10 – 15 minutes and the results become apparent within 5 to 10 days.

The results slast between 3 and 6 months, and, if the treatment is repeated, this time may lengthen with each procedure.
