Leg veins are a unsightly problem for men and women of varying age groups and skin types. They can either be small (spider veins) or larger (reticular). There are many factors that contribute to the development of veins including pregnancy, weight gain, prolonged standing, and can be hereditary.

Conventionally veins were usually treated with surgery or sclerotheropy, which in itself can cause scaring, hyper pigmentation and brown staining and in some cases skin necrosis, the breaking down of the skin.

Spider veins form when excess blood backs up in the blood stream. The body releases this pressure by developing new veins.
  • How can it be treated?

  • Leg veins have traditionally been treated by sclerotherapy or surgery. However, these methods can have serious side effects such as scarring and skin necrosis, which kills off skin cells and can be cosmetically devastating for the patient. At the King Street Clinic, we treat leg veins with high specification Vasculight and Nlite-V technology, which doesn’t have these risks.

Our Vasculight system is ideal for treating leg veins because it can provide both Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Nd Yag lasers. This mixture of lasers means that deep blue veins, smaller surface thread veins and spider veins can all be treated effectively. To achieve the best result, most patients need a treatment that combines both IPL and Nd Yag.

In both types of laser application, light energy is absorbed by the blood and converted to heat energy. The heat causes the blood to clot, which collapses the vein and causes it to be broken down and absorbed by the body.

  • How many treatments will I need?

  • The number of treatments you require will depend on the extent of your leg veins. However, as we employ the IPL, Nd Yag and Nite-V lasers, we can achieve substantial results relatively quickly.

  • Will it hurt?

  • You may notice a tingling sensation during treatment. Because there are no noticeable side effects, you should be able to return to work or your daily routine immediately after treatment.

  • When will I see results?

  • You should be able to see noticeable results immediately after your first laser treatment.

  • "I had spider veins at the bottom and the top of one leg. They had bothered me for years but I didn't know there was anything I could do about them. I thought I just had to live with them. 'I had been told about this new treatment, so I thought I would give it a go. 'It is uncomfortable, but not like having needles stuck into you. The only way I can describe the feeling is that is like having an elastic band snapped a bit for a second, then it's gone. There is not even any need for anaesthetic. I've had only one lot of treatment so far, but the results are amazing. After they had done it they told me to have a look, and there was nothing there. 'I had to wear support tights as a precaution for two days and had a bit of bruising, but that will soon go. The main thing is the veins have gone."

  • "Just to say a big thank you for the kind and considerate way you have given me over all my treatment visits to your clinic. I am sure you are missed by all your patients who come to know you. I personally think you are such a competent practitioner... Best wishes for the future."
